Genopets Partnering with Concept Art House on Procedurally Generated NFTs

When developing a play-to-earn mobile game, the primary focus is often providing players with a means of earning. Therefore, it can cloud the main objective: making an exciting game.

Unlike traditional mobile game artists, who have the luxury of designing a finite set of characters one time, in order for Genopets to deliver a spirit animal that is a unique reflection of every player, we have to approach the design from a procedural and modular perspective, to result in a more systematic standpoint, which is as challenging as it is rewarding. Plus, these aren’t just JPEGs; they’re 3D models. And not only does the art become more beautiful as you play, this is also how Genopet NFTs accrue value in marketplaces — through distinctive personalization.

It’s an honor to announce that Genopets is partnering with Concept Art House to join us in our artistic pursuit of bringing AAA game-quality artwork to Genoverse.

The Art of Work: Our Process

We could spend all day talking about the great things our teams have to offer as individuals. But, instead, this is an excellent opportunity for us to share with the world a little taste of the magic we’ve been working on together, from an artist’s perspective, and the arduous work that goes into creating procedurally generated NFT mobile game artwork. Genopets will provide millions of users with their own digital spirit animal to be nurtured, battle-seasoned, and evolved to their liking, and that’s no small work of art.

The process of creating a Genopet begins with an idea; A free flow of 2D organic animal sketches are modeled to create an overall look of what a pet will look like once it’s composed. Creating this structure opens the imagination to the different varieties of spirit animals that any given person could want. Next, we must vectorize the art, meaning we edit the shape language to easily and realistically modify the organic animal sketch to motion towards the cybernetic aesthetic. At this point, we move into an area of drawing that very much analogs architecture; orthogonal sketching, which allows us to draw and see what the Genopet will look like from different angles.

Creating gamified procedurally generated NFTs is a very delicate process that calls for a precise balance of art and science to execute accurately. We’re not only merging the technical 3D modeling of Genopets in a modular and procedural system, but we have to build multiple systems of Genopets that capture the beauty of the Genoverse while being emotionally engaging throughout their vast permutations.

A Mr. Potato Head from the Future

We’re essentially creating a cybernetic “Mr. Potato Head” system from the future. This system currently consists of a body, head, ears, eyes, horns, manes, tails, wings, antennae, emblems, light lines, and accessories combined to create a nearly infinite amount of unique Genopets. And we have to design everything in a way that is aesthetically pleasing no matter the combination.

The number of permutations we are building is in the millions (yes, millions). And the sheer volume of work required to scale, deliver, and execute the process of creating not only a unique spirit animal with 12 different body parts for every player, 77 levels and 12 stages of evolution, and endless customization is only possible with a powerhouse like CAH on our team.

And this is just for the Genopets themselves, now take this entire concept and apply it to other Genovian NFTs.

“The Genopets team has meticulously created an anatomical design system that allows for a massive range of permutations so that each Genopet can be unique to each player,” said Benjamin Tse, CPO and Co-Founder of Genopets, “Genopets are designed to be completely modular and are procedurally generated and upgraded to evolve as players interact with the game, essentially allowing users to become virtual graphic artists in their own right.”
